FREE seed packets for children available at McNab’s

Farm & Produce Stand Update
Sorry to say, but the Corn Maze will not reopen until mid-August!
Someone asked me, “Is it because of that COVID-19 virus, Murray?”
No, it's because we have not planted the corn yet! And we won't until early June.
However, my veggie growing siblings have planted several varieties of early potatoes along with beans. The first sweet corn may be planted next week.
Keeping kids busy during COVID
We are all very fortunate that we live on Southern Vancouver Island during this COVID-19 crisis. With schools closed and instruction at a bear minimum, why not take some time to pass on some useful skills to the young ones?
Why not teach the children to sew, cook, clean, and maybe even change the oil in your vehicle.
But please don't fall back on the age old gender stereotypes when doing this. Many girls would love to help with mechanical and woodworking projects, while boys would benefit from learning some cooking and cleaning skills.
FREE seed packets for children at McNab’s
And let's not forget that we live in a beautiful part of the world, blessed with a perfect growing climate. This would be a great time to get your children involved in growing some plants, or even a small garden.
We would like to help out by giving away small packets of seeds.
- Seeds will be placed on the roadside Veggie Stand at our farm
- We will put the first seeds out around noon on April 2nd, 2020
- The seeds will be in small envelopes or bags
- Every attempt will be made to ensure that the seeds are not touched by our grimy hands
- The packets will not be touched for at least 24 hours prior to being set out
- Please ensure that everyone handling the seeds washes their hands once the planting is complete
Please feel free to stop by and take the seeds that your children would like to plant.
The seeds are free. However, if you would like to leave a small donation in the cash box, all proceeds will be donated to a local charity.
At this time we have:
- peas
- corn
- beans
- clover
- grass seed (the type for your lawn)
(We may even have some pumpkin seeds so that you can try to grow your own monster pumpkin!)
Stay strong, Nanaimo!
Please stay in contact with older people in your neighbourhood and help out where you can (while maintaining physical distancing).
If we all work together as a community, we will come out the other side just fine.
If you have any comments, concerns, or suggestions, please get in touch.
